Fall '09 Maggie Harbert Bursary Winners announced (October 28, 2009)
There will be a General Meeting held at the Local on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010, 7 PM. Items to be dicsussed include the election of an interim Vice President of the Local to replace Gerry Deavy who retired on December 31st. Also, the Spring draw of the Maggie Harbert Bursary will be held. For information regarding the elections or to nominate a candidate, contact your Local steward.
At the general meeting held Ocotber 28th at the Local, changes were made to the by-laws in relation to the Maggie Harbert Bursary.
Motion by Tony Edge - To change paragraph 1 of the Bursary Policy to increase the amount of bursaries from $5000 annually to $10 000. Seconded by Moe Rudyk. Carried.
Motion by Al Charlebois - To include spouses are recongized by Canadian Civil and Common Law who are enrolled in full time post-secondary studies where tuition is not being paid by an employer in the definition of those eligible for the Maggie Harbert Bursary. Seconded by Jeff Brohman. Carried.
At a General Meeting held at the Local on October 28th, the first round winners of the Maggie Harbert Bursaries were drawn. Local 34-O bi-annually draws 10 names for a $500 bursary. Children or spouses of active, retired, or deceased members in good standing who are enrolled in full-time studies in a post secondary institution are elligible. The current draw winners are:
