Work Your Proper Hours Day
Friday, February 23, 2007
Workers and their representatives in the UK have selected February 23, 2007 as the day to focus attention on the growth of unpaid overtime.
Over five million British workers regularly perform unpaid overtime. Here in Canada, it is estimated that 10 per cent of Canadians work unpaid overtime. As reported in Canada's 2001 National Work-Life Conflict Study, employees are more likely to work unpaid overtime than paid overtime. Further, unpaid overtime work has increased substantially since the previous work-life study in 1991.
This February 23, Work Your Proper Hours Day, Canadians are encouraged to join with workers in the UK and abroad to take proper lunch and coffee breaks and leave work at their scheduled time.
